Useful or Useless ?

there was this friend of mine, whom i know for so many years, studying mdis with me told me the theory of knowing friends, when we were talking about changing our part time course to full time .... he say " we should stay in part time course, because those people we know from part time course is professional they are all working adult, full time course we can only know those kids, they cant help us much( sort of they are useless to us ) " is this the right way of knowing friends ? after listen to him about this i feel so .... if this is the way of knowing friends maybe im not worth to be known ? :) or maybe i should * shake my head and walk off *. To me i treasure every single friends of mine, i dont care about where you from, which company you are in, useful or useless, poor or rich, to me everyone worth to be someone - JeFF
